SELF Magazine Names Healthiest and Tastiest Frozen Foods

Foods from the freezer included in the 2009 Healthy Food Awards are fries, sorbet, ice cream, pop(sicle), veggie burger, veggie meal, meat meal, seafood meal, sausage, pizza and waffle. Lots like high quality brands like Trader Joe's, Edy's (aka Dreyer's for those of us here out west) and Kashi make the list.

Morningstar Farms Veggie Grillers Original takes the title of best veggie burger. I'm not an expert on meat substitutes but I have to believe there's a better option out there. Aren't those Boca burgers supposed to be good?

I definitely want to try the winner in the sausage category, Banquet Brown 'N Serve Turkey Patties. I particularly enjoy the Brown 'N Serve Lite Original for its flavor and reasonably low fat. I'm pretty sure I'll like the turkey version too.

Here's the description for the best meal meal, Organic Bistro Savory Turkey:
"Like a dish Mom would whip up," a diner said of the gluten-free turkey and quinoa pilaf.
Was this particular person raised by a four-star chef? Because I sure as hell don't remember my mom making that for dinner. Unless organic turkey and quinoa pilaf is code for Spam and rice.

Yuck. Morningstar products are loaded up with MSG. So are most veggie patties. Check out Amy's, they make some darn good ones, with no weird ingredients.

I've been meaning to try Amy's for some time. The fact it doesn't use weird ingredients is a big plus.
