Review: Wendy's Vanilla Frosty

Lately I've been trying to cook all my meals at home because I'm eating healthier and being frugal. But mostly because I'm being frugal. It's tough not eating out because I love fast food. So tough, in fact, that I said "screw it," visited Wendy's and snagged a Vanilla Frosty -- that's in addition to a bagful of hamburgers. Because sometimes you just have to say "screw it."

For the uninitiated a Wendy's Frosty is a thick and delectable soft serve ice cream/milkshake that's great by itself and even better as part of a fast food meal. Frostys, believe it or not, serve as fantastic dips for Wendy's french fries.

The Vanilla Frosty has a lot going for it. Firstly, it has a fantastic burst of initial flavor. For something you get from a national fast food chain the Frosty catches you by surprise with its smooth vanilla taste. However I found the texture to be a double-edged sword. It's thick enough to justify eating with a spoon yet the Frosty dissolves quickly in your mouth. I don't like how quickly the soft serve melts and becomes soupy rather quick.

Click here for the nutrition facts and ingredients. A small Vanilla Frosty contains 310 calories, 8 grams of fat (5 saturated) and a whopping 43 grams of sugar. Benefits include good amounts of Vitamin A and calcium.

Wendy's Vanilla Frosty, while not the most decadent of desserts, is a solid purchase for anyone who likes frozen treats. It's currently on the Super Value Menu for a limited time. One dollar for a 12-ounce Frosty? That's a flat out bargain.
